We had to get away. Are you feeling it, too? In January, my husband (and business partner) and I decided it was time to check out Mexico. We stayed 8 nights, spread over 3 resorts. Here’s what we found….
First, the staff at the resorts were very glad to see us. We’ve all had “quite a year” and so did the resorts. Every staff member was wearing a mask, there was A LOT of cleaning going on, and there were some differences from past trips.
At the airports and in the transfer to the resort we had to wear masks. While at the resort we were only asked to wear masks walking to our table in the restaurants. The check-in area and the elevators had stickers as “social distance” guides.
The resorts each had an app for daily events, to contact the concierge and to order room service. The restaurant menus popped up by scanning a QR code. The buffet was open with waitstaff at every station to serve you. Still lots of dining options, although at some resorts the restaurants were open on a rotating schedule.
In our room the shampoo, lotion and bath gel were in a sealed bag, any paper products (stationery, brochures, flyers) were removed. Housekeeping was optional. You can have full service, or you could request a quick “towel exchange” only.
The pool and beach chairs were arranged in pairs but could be moved if you have a group traveling together. No masks necessary at the pool or beach. People seemed to respect personal space. The only crowded place we noticed was the swim-up bar.
The whole experience was positive. We felt very safe, the resorts were zealously practicing good Covid protocols, and we’re ready to go back any time!
